On March 13, 2020, Coronavirus (COVID-19) was first detected in Curacao. This was the case with a 68-year-old Dutch tourist, who died on March 18, 2020 of the virus on Curacao. His wife is currently quarantined in an unknown place.

A total of 6 people have now been infected with the COVID-19 virus in Curacao.

When the coronavirus was first detected in Curacao on March 13, 2020, the Prime Minister of Curacao decided to close the borders for tourists in Europe. The Prime Minister has decided to let the planes land until March 14, 2020 to give the inhabitants the opportunity to return to the island.

Currently, Residents and local people are still allowed to return to Curacao, however they must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival in Curacao, preferably in quarantine at home. All other country's except Europe are still allowed to fly to Curacao. However individuals who have visited Hong Kong, Macau, China, Singapore, Iran, South Korea and Italy within the last 14 days, aren't allowed to board flights destined for Curacao.

Restaurant & Bars closed in Curacao

As in the Netherlands, the tourist sector and restaurants in Curacao are closed, or only open for collection and delivery. Because of the Corona virus, no one is allowed in the restaurants in Curacao to sit inside or on the terrace.

It is also no longer allowed to visit nursing homes in Curacao. Public transport is still available in Curacao, but the driver must ensure that the travelers keep a minimum distance of 2 meters from each other.

Lockdown in Curacao

There is a ban on public gatherings in Curacao, and people are asked to stay indoors and work from home as much as possible.

In Curacao, because of the Coronavirus, it is currently only allowed to take to the streets to go to the supermarket, or to go to the bank. It is also allowed to go to nature or to the beach, provided people keep at least 2 meters away from each other.
